Frequently Asked Questions
Got questions about Hack Esbjerg? We’ve got answers! Below you’ll find information about how Denmark’s most exciting hackathon worked when it took place on March 19-20, 2026.
General Information
What exactly was Hack Esbjerg 2026?
Hack Esbjerg was an intensive 24-hour technology hackathon where developers, designers, and tech enthusiasts came together to build innovative projects. It took place in Esbjerg, Denmark on March 19-20, 2026, and participants worked in teams to create working prototypes, applications, and solutions to real-world challenges. It was a fantastic opportunity to learn new skills, network with like-minded people, and compete for exciting prizes!
Who was eligible to participate?
Hack Esbjerg welcomed anyone with an interest in technology! Students, professional developers, designers, and people who were simply curious about tech all joined us. Participants had to be at least 18 years old.
What if someone didn’t have a team?
No problem at all! Many participants arrived solo. Right after the opening ceremony, we hosted a dedicated team forming event where attendees met each other, pitched their ideas, and found teammates with complementary skills. Many also connected with potential teammates on our Discord server before the event.
How large were the teams?
Teams consisted of 2-4 members. This size ensured everyone could meaningfully contribute while keeping the team agile and efficient. Teams formed both beforehand and during the event.
Was there a participation fee?
Hack Esbjerg was completely free to attend! Thanks to our generous sponsors, we provided the venue, meals, snacks, drinks, and workshop materials at no cost to participants. Hackers just brought their laptop, enthusiasm, and creativity!

Technical Details
What did teams build during the hackathon?
The possibilities were wide open! Teams built web applications, mobile apps, AI/ML solutions, games, and more. Projects had to be substantially developed during the hackathon, though existing libraries, frameworks, and APIs were allowed. Browse the 13 submitted projects.
What technical resources were available?
We had high-speed Wi-Fi, plenty of power outlets, and workspaces for all participants, plus a hardware station with microcontrollers, sensors, and development boards that teams could check out throughout the event.
Could teams start coding before the hackathon began?
Teams could brainstorm ideas and form beforehand, but actual coding and development had to start during the official hackathon hours. Using substantial pre-existing code was not permitted - judges evaluated the work completed during the event timeframe.
Which programming languages or technologies were used?
Whatever the teams were comfortable with! There were no restrictions on programming languages, frameworks, or technologies. Teams chose the tools that best suited their project idea and expertise.
Judging and Prizes
How were projects evaluated?
A panel of experienced judges evaluated projects based on several criteria including:
- Originality and creativity
- Expected impact and usefulness
- Technical difficulty and implementation quality
- Presentation and teamwork
Every team presented its project to at least two jury groups in a science-fair format, and the finalists then pitched on stage to all attendees.
What prizes were won?
We had an exciting prize pool across multiple categories — the Grand Prize, the WebLager Challenge, the Prosa Challenge, Runner-Up, and three MLH awards. Check out the winners page to see who won what!
Did participants retain ownership of their projects?
Yes! Teams retain all intellectual property rights to what they created during Hack Esbjerg. We only asked that they share their project for judging and possibly for showcase purposes with proper attribution.
Support and Community
Were there mentors available?
Yes! Experienced mentors from our sponsor companies and the local tech community were available throughout the event. They helped with technical questions, brainstorming, debugging, and general guidance.
Were there any workshops or talks?
Yes — four workshops ran on the first afternoon, covering various topics from specific technologies to pitching and presentation skills. See the event schedule for the timeline.
